Environmental and Outdoors Skills Education

Facilitating reconnection to nature with educational adventures! We cover both formal hands-on teaching in outdoor settings and outdoor skills education. Below are structured classes offered. We specialize in customized classes--particularly those for outdoor skills. Reach out to us to plan a class!

1. We offer “train the trainer” facilitator certification in Project WET. This play-based curriculum uses the hydrological cycle to cover all subject matter. Becoming a facilitator in Project WET counts for continuing education credits, enriches school curriculum, and injects play into learning. Contact us about scheduling a Project WET facilitator workshop. We can also conduct Project WET activities for groups of youth.

2. Project Learning Tree Activities for youth. Check them out!
We have trained Project Learning Tree facilitators that can coordinate fun outdoor education experiences for your groups.

3. Aquatic invertebrate encounters. Our trained biologists and staff can provide an in-depth encounter and lesson on aquatic invertebrates and aquatic ecology in general. This lesson can be tailored to any age/ability group.

4.Forest Ecology Expedition. Take a guided walk through a local forest and learn from an experienced biologist the relationships between plants, animals and their non-living environment. Explore the connections with a seasoned guide who understands Florida’s unique ecosystems. Walks can be tailored to your location, interests, age and ability level. We also offer forest ecology walks according to forest type.

5.Exploring the scientific method. An informal and Socratic session on the meaning behind science and The Method. We explore the fundamentals of the scientific method, the philosophy behind research, and fit it into the larger context of natural resource management. This class includes a field lab, in which we will practice basic methods of sampling, collecting scientific data, analyzing that data for trends,  and interpreting our results into conclusions. The wrap-up covers careers and academic opportunities within natural sciences and more. This class is led by Crystal Hartman, M.S. Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, who has over 7 years’ experience teaching environmental education and applied sciences to students aged 4 to 80, and over 15 years conducting research in many aspects of natural resource management. This class is well-suited for people ages 7 to 100.

The classes above are favored by homeschool groups, summer camp programs, extracurricular programs, schools, and educators of all kinds.
