Overview: Come explore underwater life with The Crystalline Ranger! In this 2-hour exploratory class, youth and their parents are introduced to aquatic life using a hands- on approach. We start with a display of live aquatic animals, introducing families to common creatures they may catch. Then we dive right in with our dip nets and collect creatures. After collection, we investigate what we’ve caught. Identification keys with fun facts about the animals help us to more deeply understand the lives of underwater animals. Ms. Crystal will float among the group, assisting families with their discoveries and sharing neat facts about the animals. Families will go home with informational resources about common aquatic life and follow-up activities encouraging you to explore further. This is an active and informal class, but each participant will leave with new knowledge about our aquatic environments.
Crystal Hartman is a freshwater biologist with an M.S. in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences and more than 10 years of experience instructing youth in outdoor education.
